π IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR 2024-2025 SEASON
At the present time, there are no plans to hold tryouts and organize any boys teams for the winter.
This was not an easy decision. We understand that many of the BGSB have gone on to be starters for the BGHS teams. Our board of volunteers have remained dedicated to the local youth, many of whom continued to volunteer even when their children moved on from the program.
It takes a great deal of time, effort and commitment to manage a youth sports program. Just like many other organizations, finding qualified and knowledgeable folks willing to give up their time to help teach the fundamentals of basketball, provide a competitive environment so that local athletes can be prepared for the high school level and a high degree of nurturing has proven too challenging. We have not been able to identify new board members, enough qualified coaches nor anyone willing to take the program over.
The program is not being shut down; just simply scaled down to what our volunteers can manage. We will continually evaluate our schedules to kick start the program again in the future if time allows or work with folks willing to get involved. That means we need at least 4-5 motivated folks thatΒ understand the local basketball landscape and are able to hit the court running. If you have such a desire to help organize basketball in Battle Ground and have a bench of teammates ready to help you on the court, reach out to us at bgselectbasketball@gmail.com.
ABOUT US
BGSB is a competitive youthΒ basketball program for boys and girls in 4th through 8th grade.
Traditionally, players must try out for teams, usually in late fall to be selected and placed on a team. Teams practice 2 to 3 times a week and play through the winter session. Teams play in various tournaments throughout the Vancouver/Portland metro area using high school rules.
